Clifton, Bristol

A week or so ago I popped over to Bristol to visit my beautiful friend Lauren in her new place.

The adventure began before I even got to there; I got totally lost on the bus, and had fun driving round and round the city, till the driver took pity on me and kindly gave me directions. But seriously, if ever there was a city to get lost in, Bristol is one of the best ones. She's a beauty!

Once I'd finally negotiated the bus system (I am so useless!) I made it to the delightful Clifton Village.

So much of the village reminded me of Bath (think Georgian architecture, and lots of lovely green spaces), but this little street really made me think of London; beautiful townhouses houses surrounding a private residents garden. It was so Notting Hill!

Having whipped up a light lunch in her flat, we headed out to explore the neighborhood. We pottered about in the sun, picking up some groceries, and popping in and out of the little stores. Lauren introduced me to The Pod, which is absolutely a new favorite of mine, and I finally managed to get my hands on one these little guys! Such a happy lady! (he's now in pride of place on my dressing table, which I completely reorganized to make space for him. If that's not love, I really don't know what is..)

Having had our fill of the shops (ok, that's not true, there was so much more I wanted to see, but time was running out!) we headed over to the suspension bridge for a glimpse of the city. Brunel's bridge is quite a landmark locally, so it seemed silly not to check it out. (if you're ever in the area, it's well worth a visit! It's right by the Clifton Downs, the perfect place to enjoy a picnic on a warm summer afternoon)

Just to the left of the bridge (or the right, I guess, depending on which direction you're walking in..) is the Clifton Observatory, inside which someone once built a camera obscura. This apparently projects a panoramic view of the bridge and surrounding area onto a the walls inside the tower. Though don't ask me how they do it. I'm pretty sure its magic.. It is magic right..?

Anyways, however the illusion is achieved, its definitely high on my list of places to visit. That and the zoo. Oh, and any one of the  multitude of adorable looking coffee shops that we passed. Basically, I think what I'm saying here, is that I will defiantly be back to for more. And of course, as ever, I promise to share all my adventures here. :)

Much Love,
Jessie
