Homemade lemonade

I've been on a roll with the home made drinks lately. :)

A few weeks back, when it was super sunny, I felt inspired by the lemons I spotted lying around in the fridge, to make a homemade lemonade.

I had a quick google, and flicked through some of my mammas recipe books, and came up with this concoction. (for those of you who don't know me in real life, this is a real achievement for me. I'm quite nervous in the kitchen, and never deviate from the recipe. Which of course means I can't blog about the stuff I make, for fear of breaching some kinda copyright rules)

Anyways, I've gone off on one. To make your homemade lemonade you will need:

750ml water
4 unwaxed lemons
75g caster sugar
1 tsp of (local) honey
Three sprigs of mint (and a few leaves to garnish)

Method:

Pop your water in the kettle, and bring to the boil.

Use a vegetable peeler to peel the zest off your lemons (try to remove as much of the white pith as possible). Place peelings into a heat proof bowl or jug, and add the sugar and honey.

Pour over your water, and stir until the sugar has dissolved.

Add the mint, and leave to cool.

Once the lemonade is cooled (I probably left mine for four or five hours), strain the mint and zest, and bottle. Or decant straight into a jug with ice, and enjoy in the sun.

I'm having way too much fun with the beautiful mess app. get it here. (for iphone, and android!)

Store in the fridge (if you have any left over!)

It was ludicrously simple, but so delicious. There really is something so satisfying about making something for pennies that you would usually spend pounds on. Such an easy way to make an evening in the garden just a little bit more special. :)

Oh, and I'm thinking about making some more, so I can make a lemonade/gin cocktail like the one I loved at Yammo. Does anyone out there have any experience of this? Tips?

Much Love,
Jess

  1. That sounds an amazing idea - mmm homemade lemonade, I bet it tastes fab. If only my teeny tiny lemon tree would hurry up and grow some fruit, guess i'll have to pop to the store instead!

    1. I'd never even considered that it would be possible to grown my own lemons till I saw your blog post! I'm definitely gonna give planting the seeds a go next time I use up some lemons! (and I'll be using your post for inspiration!) J x

  2. Mmm sounds yummy! I seem to buy lemons from the store for a reason and then forget that reason, but this might use them up and be refreshing!
